The Engineered Layered Materials (ELM) Laboratory at Ajou University designs and grows two-dimensional layered materials from the bottom up. We center on epitaxial hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and thin-film synthesis — controlling its stacking, polytype, and defects to create inversion-symmetry-broken structures with distinctive physical properties, and building them into ultraviolet light emitters, quantum-grade hosts, and next-generation electronic and neuromorphic devices.
The lab joins the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in March 2026, bringing together crystal growth, materials characterization, and device physics. Learn more on the research and professor pages.
